A crime branch officer confirmed the arrest but added that police are still on the lookout for the main accused, Ashok Meneria, who was employed as a cook at the Ajmera residence.

The officer said was Meneria who hatched the plan to kill Chetna after she allegedly refused to give him Rs. 6000, towards what he believed was his overdue salary.

The officer said Rathod is also a cook and was earlier employed at Worli.

“Meneria had roped in Rathod and one Hemant to murder Ajmera. He promised them a share of the booty they were to steal from the Ajmera residence,” the officer said.

He said Rathod was presented before a local court on Saturday and was remanded in police custody till September 17.

As the trio fled the city together, police are hoping to be able to track down Meneria and Hemant, who are suspected to be holed up outside the state.
