Patient jumps to death at KEM hospital
A 45-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the second floor of the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Parel at 5 am on Monday.
A 45-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the second floor of the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Parel at 5 am on Monday.
According to hospital sources, Baliram Daulatram Bhaval, a resident of Kranti Nagar in Kandivli, was admitted to the hospital's general ward on August 14.
"He was being treated for fever. We cannot say what could have prompted him to take such a step," said Dr Pravin Bangar, resident medical officer, KEM Hospital.
Initial investigations by the Bhoiwada police officials, revealed that Bhaval could have been mentally disturbed. He had been admitted to a hospital in Malad a few days ago, before being shifted to KEM Hospital.
Sources said Bhaval got himself discharged on Monday morning against doctor's advice and then ran up to the second floor, from where he jumped down.
He was rushed to the casualty ward by the security guards with serious head injuries and he died at about 5.45 am.
The police have registered a case of accidental death. "Investigations are on to check the motive behind this act," said Sunil Kale, assistant police inspector, Bhoiwada police station.
