Police bust fake currency racket, four arrested

Posing as fish and mango traders, two people who circulated fake currency worth lakhs in local markets were arrested along with their two handlers.

Posing as fish and mango traders, two people who circulated fake currency worth lakhs in local markets were arrested along with their two handlers. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) recovered counterfeit currency valued at Rs 13.6 lakh from the accused.

Rakesh Maria, additional director general of police (ATS) said Maria said Samed Habibul Shaikh, 35, and Dildar Hussain Abdul Hadi, 45, were arrested with fake notes worth Rs 6 lakh near Sagar Café at Nagpada.

“We arrested two more people on Tuesday morning from Dharavi. Mohammed Rafiqul Raisuddin Islam, 23, and Pratap Bhogen Choudhary, 24, are an important catch because they brought fake currency from Malda in West Bengal,”Maria said.
