An unidentified man had hurled acid at Rathi, when she got off the Garib Rath Express last Thursday. Rathi suffered burns on her face and digestive tract. Accompanied by her father, Rathi had come to the city from Delhi to join the INHS Asvini Defence Hospital in Colaba as nurse from May 15.

Two GRP teams have been camping in Delhi to get more clues in the case. “We have recorded statements of Rathi’s mother, friends and others. The motive behind the attack could be related to the family,” said Prabhat Kumar, commissioner of police, GRP.

The officials had earlier prepared a list of 133 persons, aged between 25 and 30, who were travelling with the Rathi family on the train. The officials are confident that they will ascertain the identity of the attacker soon.

When the sketch of the accused was allegedly shown to Rathi, the police said that she couldn’t see the face clearly. However, she stated that she might have spotted someone similar to the sketch in Delhi, before boarding the train for Mumbai.
