Policeman who tried to foil carjacking dies

Dattu Sarnobat had sustained severe head and chest injuries after an accused knocked him down with his Swift D'zire in a bid to flee after being accosted.

Dattu Sarnobat had sustained severe head and chest injuries after an accused knocked him down with his Swift D'zire in a bid to flee after being accosted.

Sarnobat had been admitted to Bombay Hospital where he died on Saturday morning. He who was the sole breadwinner of the family is survived by his wife and two sons in Andheri. "The doctors said he was in coma and there was making no progress," said assistant police inspector A Rane, Kherwadi police.

The Khar police also arrested a third accused in the incident on Thursday morning. Mangesh Pote, senior inspector, Khar police station said, "We have arrested the third accused in the case.The arrested accused Ali Hussain, 22, was nabbed on Thursday morning from outside Khar railway station." Two more accused are still on the run.
