The incident took place on February 10, 2008. Police constable Amukhsiddha Karpe and police naik Siddharth Tapal were passing by the Bandra Bandstand area during the daytime when they spotted three couples stranded in the sea behind Hotel Sea Rock in Bandra (West).

The three couples were shouting for help as they were unable to return to the shore due to rising tide. Karpe and Tapal came to their rescue and managed to pull out two of the three couples.

The third couple, however, was pulled in by the waves before they could be saved.

Karpe and Tapal will be honoured at the All India Police Sports Competition, which will take place between February 5 to February 12 at Jaipur.
