Three people broke into the house of a businessman at Malabar Hill in 2008, assaulted him and stole Rs 200.

On Tuesday, the sessions court convicted them and sentenced three of them to seven years imprisonment and one to five years in jail. The three robbers, with the help of two minor servants, entered the house of the complainant on February 2, 2008.
When the accused, Premnath Jagannath was standing outside the house two other accused Laxman Gujar and Shrikrishna allegedly went inside the house armed with a knife and a toy pistol. The police said that Laxman and Shrikrishna first assaulted Siroya Sanam (45) grievously, tied him up and took the cupboard key, said defence lawyer Vijay Desai.
Police said when the accused opened the cupboard, they only found Rs 200. They took the money and fled. Police also said Laxman’s shirt was stained with blood and he wore Sanam’s shirt after the crime. They arrested all the accused, including two minors who were sent to a juvenile home. The trial of the minors was separated from the main trial.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 12 witnesses consisting of the people who saw the accused running, Sanam and police officers. Accepting the prosecution’s case the court convicted Jagannath, Laxman and Shrikrishna and sentenced Shrikrishna and Laxman to seven years imprisonment, and sentenced Jagannath to five years jail.
