In a bureaucratic reshuffle on Wednesday, Chandrashekhar Rokde was brought back to head the encroachment demolition department. He has been given charge of encroachment removal and will implement the hawking policy in the island city. Rokde joined the BMC as deputy municipal commissioner in 1998. Since then, he had been handling the encroachment removal department.

He was transferred in 2002 because he razed a partially unauthorised structure which came in the way of a road-widening project at Vikhroli, despite the then civic commissioner staying the demolition.

The BMC transferred eight other administrative officials.
