The former medical officer who had examined Salman Khan after his arrest, on Thursday confirmed that the actor had consumed alcohol, but he was not under the influence of liquor when he was clinically examined the next day.

The former medical officer who had examined Bollywood star Salman Khan after his arrest in the 2002 hit-and-run case, on Thursday confirmed that the actor had consumed alcohol, but he was not under the influence of liquor when he was clinically examined the next day.

According to the prosecution case, Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser had allegedly rammed into a bakery in Bandra September 28, 2002, killing one person and injuring four others who were sleeping on the pavement.

The prosecution had alleged that the actor was under the influence of alcohol and was driving the car.

The prosecution on Thursday examined Dr Shashikant Pawar, who was on duty at JJ Hospital when the actor was brought in for medical examination the next day after the incident. The doctor deposed that the actor smelt of alcohol but the clinical examination revealed that he was not under the influence.

The doctor revealed that after the clinical examination the hospital authorities had taken the blood samples and handed it over to the police for chemical analysis.

However, during the cross examination, Khan's advocate Shrikant Shivde contended that the doctor had fabricated the medical register and the case papers which were prepared when the actor was brought in for medical examination.

Shivde also pointed out that the case paper, which should be a carbon copy of the contents written in the register, was fabricated. He alleged that the case paper, which is prepared first, did not mention that the actor smelt of alcohol, while the medical register states otherwise.

Further, the advocate also pointed out that the doctor did not take the signature of the actor on the case paper which is necessary. The cross examination of the doctor will continue on January 27.

Meanwhile, the police officials said that the doctor has been provided with security after he expressed threat to his life during the last hearing on Monday.
