"They have time till midnight," said municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte.

The Sena had erected the makeshift memorial at the site where Thackeray had been cremated.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been reluctant to permit a memorial. Last week, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said he was ready to relocate the memorial at another spot inside the park.

Kunte, however, said the Sena had not sent a proposal for an alternate location.
