The series, called Shobhaa Dé Books, will appear in 2011.

Though the concept is prevalent internationally, this would be the first time in Indian publishing that a line of branded books is given by a publishing house to an individual.

“It is considered a great honour and a matter of prestige to have your own imprint. I will handpick authors and books that fit into my sensibilities,” said Dé, who has been a consulting editor for Penguin Books India for a few years.

“I’ll be looking at muscular, new voices saying something strong about ourselves. But beyond fiction, I’ll also be developing a strong line of commercial titles that embrace various lifestyle categories.”
