The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will ask all 24 wards to map the most contamination-prone as well as leakage-prone areas, and submit detailed reports, after which it plans to attend to these spots urgently.

While the drive will be conducted at the ward level, officials have been instructed to submit daily reports on its progress to senior civic officials.

Additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota said: “The wards will be told to identify these areas quickly and concerted efforts will then be taken to adopt these areas early, so that the problem doesn’t flare in the monsoons.”

Contamination of water generally peaks during the monsoon.
