Parents and students heaved a sigh of relief as school bus owners withdrew their strike on Friday. After keeping their vehicles off the roads for the entire day, the School Bus Owners Association announced late on Friday evening that it was withdrawing the strike, but said it would continue to protest.

The announcement came as chief minister Prithviraj Chavan refused to talk to the association, insisting that it should first call off the strike.

The strike call was given primarily because school bus owners want the government to dilute rules in the school bus policy. The rules were framed for the safety of students following several school bus accidents.
