A 16-year-old student from NM College died on Tuesday at Nanavati Hospital after he allegedly fell from the third floor of his college building in Juhu-Vile Parle.
The police are investigating the case from all possible angles as it is not clear whether the student identified as Prasad Bagaria had fallen accidentally or committed suicide.
Bagaria was studying in Class 12 at NM College and lived at Lokhandwala in Andheri (West) along with his family.
“The incident took place around 3.30pm on Wednesday when the boy was on the third floor. We are inquiring whether at the time of the incident other students were present with the boy or not. After class, most students left for home. At this moment it is not clear whether the boy was pushed by someone or whether he committed suicide,” said senior police inspector, Arun Bhagat of the Juhu police station.
When Bagaria fell, a few students and college security guards heard a loud thud. They ran to the spot and found the boy lying on the ground. He was immediately taken to the hospital but died some time after admission.
Bhagat said that the college authorities were informed about the incident following which the police, too, were informed. “We immediately went to the spot and inquired with students and the watchmen of the college but they were not aware about the circumstances surrounding the death,” he said.
The police informed the boy’s family. Bagaria’s classmates will be questioned to know what led to the incident.
