The city recorded nearly as many cases of swine flu in the past two weeks as it did in the first six months of the year, according to BMC figures. Till June 30, the city recorded 58 cases. From July 1 to July 15, 49 cases were recorded.

Doctors say the drop in temperature and increased humidity could have led to the spurt. “The virus spreads faster in such conditions,” said Dr Abhay Chaudhary, director, Haffkine Institute, Parel, that conducts tests for swine flu.
