“Dear Sir, the Ratnagiri District Magistrate has issued prohibitory orders against you under CRPC 114 by which you are prohibited from entering Ratnagiri district from 9 March 2011 to 24 March 2011. From Ratnagiri District Police,” read the message.

“I had been in touch with the collector in connection to the MPs visit and pertaining to their stay and security arrangements for the last few days. And today, I received this message from entering the district. But how can they prohibit the MPs,” said Monteiro.

With prohibitory notices slapped on social activists and even former chief justices, Monteiro said, “It seems like the state government has begun using modern technology to slap orders in such a fashion. At this rate, I won’t be surprised if one day the media is also not allowed to enter the area.”
