Around 6pm, a woman found the boys’ clothes lying near the pond, but could not see anyone around.

She enquired with the nearby slumdwellers if any of their children had gone for a swim.

“After an hour of enquiring around, finally the father of one of the boys identified his clothes. The fire brigade was subsequently informed,” said Chandrakant Jadhav, police inspector of Manikpur police station.

Firemen fished out the three bodies by late evening.

The Manikpur police have registered a case of accidental death.
