The partnership comes in the year of TISS's ongoing 75th anniversary celebrations and the University of Sussex's 50th anniversary celebrations. University of Sussex officials are in the city for anniversary celebrations and meet alumni "Individual researchers have had links with each other, but now this will be an institutional relationship," said Michael Farthing, vice-chancellor of the University of Sussex. The details of the partnership have not yet been worked out but would include the possibility of students studying at both TISS and Sussex during post-graduate programmes.

Likely areas include the social sciences and social work degrees. There are around 200 Indian students enrolled at the university of Sussex, mostly in masters' programmes.
