Mukhtar Shaikh, a resident of Matranipada in Goregaon (East), was stabbed to death on Saturday evening, following which a case of murder was registered against the unidentified accused.

“Abdul Sattar Abdul Baloch, 45, and Iqbal Samera, 43, surrendered before us following which we arrested them for murdering Shaikh. We are looking for their accomplices,” said an officer from the Dindoshi police station, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The police added that the accused are history- sheeters.

“Baloch and Samera had a rivalry with Mukhtar. They claim that the deceased would wrongly tip the police against them even when they were not involved in the crime. We are verifying if this was the true motive behind the murder,” said a police officer requesting anonymity.

Police inspector S Choudhary confirmed the arrests.

The incident took place on Saturday around 6.30pm when Shaikh was on his way to his Matranipada residence. A group of four men allegedly attacked him with choppers and fled after stabbing him. The police said locals rushed Shaikh to Bhagwati hospital where he was declared dead before admission.

An officer requesting anonymity added, “Baloch had attacked Shaikh once in the past as well.”
