Two incidents of bag-snatching reported in Vile Parle

A case of bag-lifting has been registered against an unidentified duo who — in two separate incidents -- robbed two women of cash and valuables worth Rs1.27 lakh in Vile Parle on Sunday.

A case of bag-lifting has been registered against an unidentified duo who — in two separate incidents -- robbed two women of cash and valuables worth Rs1.27 lakh in Vile Parle on Sunday.

In the first incident, Anju More, 35, a doctor from Airoli, was targeted while she was in an autorickshaw on the Western Express Highway. More had kept her bag on her lap. Two men on a bike snatched the bag and sped.

The bag contained Rs35,000, an ATM card and some documents collectively worth Rs45,000.

The second incident involving Ruksana Khan, 56, took place on the service road near near Sagar Marbles. Khan, a resident of Juhu Road, was travelling in an autorickshaw when the two men snatched her purse and sped.

Khan’s purse contained Rs15,000 cash, a mobile phone and a gold chain collectively worth Rs82,000.

Both Khan and More have lodged a complaint with the police.

“We suspect the offences were committed by the same bike-borne duo. We are trying to ascertain their identity. We have registered a case of theft against two unidentified men,” said N Patil, senior police inspector, Vile Parle police station.
