The Navi Mumbai police suspect that watchmen of the housing society in Nerul, where 48-year-old Usha Srinivasan was brutally murdered in her flat, could be involved in the crime.
Srinivasan, a housewife, was murdered around 5.30 pm on Monday inside her home at the Green House Society situated at Plot 93 in Sector 21.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe said, “We have been working on the theory that the culprits were known to the victim as they made their entry into the house through the door. Also, the gold jewellery in the house was not stolen.”
According to sources, the two watchmen of the building could have attacked Srinivasan as she had scolded them over a petty issue related to the water tank. One of the watchmen is reportedly absconding, said sources.
“We are very close to solving the crime. We are interrogating the watchmen of the building to get complete details of the incident,” said Dudhe.
Srinivasan’s husband – Srinivasan Subramaniam, 56 – works at LRC Company in the MIDC area of Navi Mumbai and was away when the incident happened. She was attacked with a sharp object and had cuts and stab injuries on her head, face and throat. Srinivasan’s only son is studying at IIM-Ahmedabad.
