Your power bills will rise from September

Power consumers in the state, irrespective of their supplier, will have to pay more from next month. This is because the Maharashtra Electricity Regu-latory Commission (MERC) has increased the ceiling of fuel adjustment cost (FAC) to 20% from 10%.

FAC is a component in your bill and is charged when electricity distributors pay more to power generation companies, that in turn spend more to buy fuel.

MERC, in its order on Monday, said fuel and power purchase costs had increased significantly because of an increase in prices of domestic/imported coal and gas, which had adversely affected all distribution licensees.
