Shilpa Rao has struck the right chord with music lovers. After mesmerising us with songs such as Bulleya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil; 2016), Malang (Dhoom; 2013), Manmarziyan (Lootera; 2013) and Gustakh Dil (English Vinglish; 2012), Shilpa is working on her new single—a peppy Punjabi song. For the untitled single, the singer is planning to collaborate with local artists from India and abroad.
Shilpa has already travelled to New York, Tokyo, Ladakh and met local music artists. She plans to visit few more places soon. “I believe in creating and recreating unique numbers. For me, music is what reaches the heart without any age bar. I am definitely loitering around for the flickering random music, but I also believe in giving it a shape. So when I thought of working on the single, I decided to pick sounds from various parts of the world. But I have kept the Indian touch intact,” she says.
Shilpa released her first single, I believe, in 2011 and her upcoming Punjabi track will be her sixth single. Talking more about this untitled track, Shilpa adds, “Shreen, who is a dear friend, has penned the lyrics. It’s a funky number to thump your heart beats.”
Ask her when she plans to release the track, and she says, “I am eagerly waiting for it to be released and will soon make an announcement. We are also planning to shoot a music video for the same.”
