US President George W Bush has reportedly cancelled all plans for Republican supporter Britney Spears to perform at the party's New York convention, fearing she's too "raunchy".

Bush, currently under fire over the Iraq war, had initially been keen to allow the pop diva to attend but changed his mind due to opposition from party hardliners, reported imdb.com.

One Republican source said: "We are a serious political party and we really don't need the likes of Britney to promote us.

"Besides, with the headlines she's been recently attracting, we think she'd do more harm than good to the Bush cause. We don't get what Britney has to offer for our cause."
