You were involved in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, when your song became Romania’s official entry. You were just 19 then. What was that like?
The song was called Tornero, but it was not written by me. I worked on it with Eduard Circota, the composer. It was a very good collaboration. When I was in my studio, working later that night, I found out that it won fourth place in the entire contest.
What spurred you to work with music?
I have been making music since I was a little child. My grandfather is a musician too, so it runs in the family.
Why do you think your debut single, Stereo love, released in 2009, has been such a runaway hit?
I composed it with a great international musician from Azerbaijan called Eldar Mansurov. He believed in my talent from the start of my music career .
What can we expect to see at your gig tonight?
There will be a live show and also a DJ set. There will be a lot of surprises, including the songs from my first album that will be released soon. Until the album is launched, you will only be able to hear these songs in live concerts.
What is Romania like?
It’s a great country with a lot of musical culture. Maybe you would like visit my studio there! You are most welcome. The current clubbing trend in Romania is trance and house.
Have you performed in India or Mumbai before?
It’s my first time here and I am very excited because I have already received a lot of comments and e-mails from my fans here.
What instruments influence your music?
In Stereo love, it is the accordion. In This is my life, I used some other instruments like the guitar and something new. In Desert rain, my new single that will be released soon, I’m planning a big surprise…
Have you thought of using desi beats in your songs or collaborating with an Indian artist?
Yes, I listened to some Indian music before coming here. You have a lot of good instruments. Maybe I will try something for a future single.
Is the job as glamorous as it seems? What is the best and worst part of being a pop star?
The best thing is that you can do something for all the people in the world. You can connect on an emotional level with everybody through your love songs or your happy or sad songs. The worst part is the travelling, but when I get up on the stage, everything is perfect and I can dance and sing with everybody! And I can’t wait. My first album will be released soon.
