Here’s a look at what went into the making of a super tune

Composer: Amit Trivedi
Singer: Shalmali Kholgade and Monali Thakur

A folksy tune set to a house track, ‘Aga bai’ stands apart for its edgy vocals and catchy chorus. The song represents Trivedi’s trademark style, previously seen in Dev.D (2009). Shalmali kholgade shares the experience of working on the song.

Marathi touch: “Amit’s brief was: a Maharashtrian girl singing a Hindi song. The only thing I was told time and again to focus on was the Marathi pronunciation of the words in the song.”

EDM clicked: “I was moving to the groove of ‘Aga bai’ throughout the recording. It is the first of its form — electronic dance music in Indian cinema. Its success is thanks to Rani Mukerjee’s absolutely stunning performance in the video.”

Working with Amit: “He is an amazing person. I was at ease the whole time and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience."
