Today is World Music Day, a day when the globe celebrates music in all its glory. It was started in France in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, who proposed an all-night music celebration to mark the beginning of the summer solstice (which occurs sometime between December 20 and December 23 each year in the Southern Hemisphere and between June 20 and June 22 in the Northern Hemisphere).
