Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington commits suicide: Report

The rock musician was reportedly found dead at his southern California home.

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, was reported to have committed suicide on Thursday at his southern California home.

Celebrity website TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, said Bennington, 41, had hung himself at his Palos Verdes home near Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County coroner spokesman Brian Elias says they are investigating Bennington’s death as an apparent suicide but no additional details are available.

A Palos Verdes police spokesman could not confirm the report. But spokesman Greg Robinson said in a statement that officers had been dispatched to an address in Palos Verdes early on Thursday morning.

Representatives of the band did not immediately return calls for comment.

The group sold 10 million copies of their 2000 debut, “Hybrid Theory,” and then another 4 million with 2003’s multiplatinum “Meteora.” Both albums explored feelings of frustration and fury.

Bennington, who sported piercings and tattoos, struggled with drug and alcohol addictions at various times during his life. He was married and is survived by six children.
