Rihanna and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown shared a public kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Staples Centre here.

The former couple, who split in February 2009 after Brown assaulted Rihanna, hugged when he won the Best Male Video prize at the event last night and she appeared to peck him on the cheek to congratulate him, reported Us magazine.

Rihanna herself picked up the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year, for 'We Found Love'.

The 24-year-old singer walked the VMA red carpet in a sleek white dress and debuted a simple, feminine pixie cut with bangs in a simple shade of black.

The look, reminiscent of ones seen on Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams, is a demure departure for Rihanna, who has been seen with bright red, curly hair, severe bobs, a platinum-blonde shade and more.
