While international drivers will burn the rubber at the upcoming Indian Grand Prix at Buddh International Circuit from October 26-28, three rock bands and three dance groups from colleges of the city are ready to set the stage on fire at the mega event.
The young talent, which has been selected after a special round of auditions, will perform at the entertainment zones at the venue. “We were asked to send videos of our performance, after which, some groups were shortlisted. After auditions, the final selections were made,” says Gaurav Mankoti, member of Verve, the western dance group of Sri Venkateswara College. The group is going to perform dance styles including hip-hop.
Adding the Punjabi flavour will be Bhangra Knights from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT). “This is one of the biggest opportunities for us,” says Bamanjeet Singh Kalra, a fourth year student. The third participating dance group is Misba from Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce.
There will also be a treat for music lovers, as three upcoming bands will be performing at the event. One of them is the 11 piece Stoned Age from Hindu College. “We are going to perform some rock numbers of bands like Metallica, Led Zeppelin, among others,” says Nikhil Sardana, the pianist with the band. Another rock band is Eclectic Notes from MAIT. The progressive rock act is going to present a unique form of fusion. “We’re going to perform two of our original tracks - Payaliya, a fusion number and Bhairav, a metal and classical number,” says Yashvardhan Sharma, the vocalist from the band.
The third competing rock band is called Yatharth.
