THANE: The Thane police on Saturday named former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni as an accused in the FIR on Rs 2,000 crore drug smuggling case that was unearthed in April this year.

On April 12, Thane police seized 18.50 tonnes of ephedrine and 2.50 tonnes of acetic anhydride, both banned party drugs from Avon Lifesciences Limited in Thane. Kulkarni was one of the directors of the firm and owns shares worth ` 11 lakh, police said.
“We have added Mamta’s name to the FIR and are in process of issuing a red corner notice,” said Thane commissioner of police Parambir Singh, adding that the actress is in Kenya with her husband, also a co-accused.
The police have already issued a red corner notice for Vicky Goswami, Kulkarni’s husband.
A total of seven suspects are wanted and ten people have been arrested the case.
Colombian and Moroccan drug dealers are involved in the case and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration has shared pictures of Abdulla, an international dealer from Kenya, he added.
Kulkarni’s role in the narcotics racket was confirmed on the basis of statements of some of the accused in the case that she and Goswami held meetings with some clients.
