BAREILLY: The Bareilly teen rape and pregnancy case has taken a new turn, with the father of the accused lodging a police complaint against the girl’s family, accusing them of causing “physical and mental hurt to him and his family members.”

In the complaint, the father has also mentioned the name of the girl, who is over eight-month pregnant.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, two constables from the local police station visited the rape victim’s house on Thursday morning. “They (constables) came to my house and asked me to come to the police station,” said the victim’s father.

Though the SHO claimed that it was a routine procedure, the victim’s family termed it as a “new method to harass” them.

“My family is already under stress and this is their new way of harassing us,” said the father.

The girl who is not willing to give birth to the child was denied permission to terminate pregnancy initially by courts (both lower and high court) and then by a medical board on the ground of “advanced pregnancy.”

“They are doing all this to force us to withdraw the rape case and migrate to other place. But come what may, I am going to fight for justice,” said the girl’s father.

The police accepted the complaint but have not registered an FIR in the matter yet. “We will register an FIR after the verification of the complaint is completed,” said Upendra Singh, SHO, Shergarh police station.
