Plan to rename Bengal put for vote, faces criticism
NEW DELHI: The process to rename West Bengal moved forward on Monday when the proposal was voted on the floor of the assembly by a 189-31 majority. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said a new logo will be developed for the state. Trinamool Congress has a majority of 211 in a house of 294. Congress and the Left walked out after the proposal was put to vote. The BJP also red-flagged the move, saying the historical context behind the current name has been ignored.
