GORAKHPUR (UP): BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on Monday described the sacking of two ministers by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav as a damage-control exercise, adding that the move was not enough and called for a probe into the role of others who were involved in the alleged mining scam.

“A time-bound probe must be carried out into the alleged mining scam. If investigated honestly, the quantum of the scam would turn out to be lakhs of crores,” the lawmaker told reporters at Gorakhnath temple on Monday.

He said the mining scam was only the tip of the iceberg. Bigger scams had occurred under the present regime, he claimed.

“The state government wrote to the CAG and asked it not to carry out a probe into the Noida and Ghaziabad land scams. Why did they put pressure on the government agency?” he asked.

He attacked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for projecting himself a well-wisher of the country’s farmers, saying had the Congress been serious about the condition of the agrarian community, so many farmers would not have committed suicide during the 10-year UPA rule.
