Police said the armed militants fired at two houses in the village when a few people had gathered for the evening ‘kirtan’.

The deceased were identified as Kishori Shah and Rajesh Shah.

The injured were admitted to a local hospital in Doomdooma and later shifted to Tinsukia civil hospital. The grievously injured were shifted to Assam Medical College hospital in Dibrugarh.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the incident and ordered strict action.

“The Friday evening incident in Doomdooma is an act of cowardice. Culprits involved in the attack will not be spared,” said Sonowal.
