KOLKATA: Twenty years after they failed to convince the party’s central leadership to let Jyoti Basu become the Prime Minister of a Congress-supported United Front government, liberal CPI(M) leaders from Bengal on Sunday fought hard to convince the central leadership to let them continue with a state-level alliance with Congress. “Bengal leaders have placed their argument. But this decision will be taken by the central committee at its next meeting,” former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said. The two-day meet of the Bengal state committee came to an end on Sunday.
