Authority puts separator on Model Town alternative route to smoothen traffic flow

The Noida authority and the traffic police have put a separator on the alternate route created between Electronic City Chowk and NH-24 for smooth vehicular movement. The alternate route was created to reduce traffic from the main road between Sector 62 and NH-24. The route was opened for traffic on Friday but it turned out to be a nightmare in the absence of a separator.

Commuters on way from NH-24 to Sector 62 and vice-versa had to struggle through the alternate route that resulted in chaos on Friday evening. Not much trouble was faced by commuters as the next two days were a weekend with considerably low vehicular movement.

“A separator has now been put along the 500-metre alternate route, which has helped traffic movement. This is, no doubt, a temporary arrangement but managing traffic here at Model Town has always been a tough task for the police. For over a year, construction for an underpass is underway and in the past fifteen days, the Noida authority has started repair work for an underground water pipeline. Model Town T-point is one of the busiest traffic junctions between Noida and Ghaziabad. We are already under pressure for managing traffic across the city because of construction work underway at several places,” said Sanjay Singh, superintendent of police (SP) traffic, adding that traffic volume at this crossing is the highest.

A senior Noida authority official said that the main road will remain closed till the repair work is complete.

“I cannot give you the schedule of when the work will be completed but repair work for laying the underground water pipeline would take long and that is why the alternate route has been created for streamlining traffic,” said Samakant Srivastava, project engineer, Noida authority.

Commuters who have been experiencing traffic snarls every day believe they have a better option. They are using the left turn from the Electronic City Chowk towards NIB (National Institute of Biologicals) in sector 62 to reach NH-24.

“Both Model Town and Chhijarsi points are jammed during the peak hours. I go to Rajnagar from Noida every day and my preferred route is from Model Town point to Chhijarsi to reach NH-24 and then take a right. It takes me 30 minutes minimum to cross these two points,” said Mohan Mishra of Raj Nagar Ghaziabad.
