The GDA has written to the secretary of finance, UP government, to request a regional office of the Registrar, Cooperative Societies in Ghaziabad or Gautam Budh Nagar.

The vice-chairman of Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has written to the secretary of finance, UP government, on Tuesday to request a regional office of the Registrar, Cooperative Societies in Ghaziabad or Gautam Budh Nagar.

Currently, the office is located in Meerut and this poses a problem for residents’ welfare associations of both cities as they have to travel 60 km to get their work done.(Sakib Ali/HT Photo)

“I am aware of the problem faced by residents here due to the distance they have to travel for registering their associations and for other official work. Moreover, it also poses a problem to the authority in keeping a track on various apartment owners’ associations. As GDA is one of the competent authorities in apartment owners’ association matters, going to Meerut amid the regular workload becomes a problem for officials,” said Vijay Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA.

He said he has mentioned that with Meerut’s population of 34 lakh, Ghaziabad’s of 46 lakh and GB Nagar’s of 16 lakh, it is essential to set up a separate registrar’s office for Ghaziabad and GB Nagar in one of the cities.

The move comes after the Federation of Apartment Owners’ Association (Fed-AOA) wrote to the GDA VC on July 28 requesting the same .

“Having the office of the registrar 60 kilometres from our city is not only troublesome, but also leads to delay in AOA elections and other paper work. Seldom do the GDA officials find time to go to the registrar’s office and neither do officials from there agree to come here,” said Alok Kumar, patron, Fed-AOA, Ghaziabad.

He added that due to this, the AOA elections at Windsor Apartments in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, have been stalled for the past three years.

“For the registration of our federation too, I had to visit the office in Meerut for more than a year and a half. It consumed a lot of time and money,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yadav said he hopes that the government takes action regarding this sooner than later.

“We have done our duty by requesting the government to take up the matter. Now it is for them to act on it,” Yadav said.
