According to Talan’s son Pradeep, his father was undergoing treatment at a private hopsital in Jewar in Greater Noida for the past one week.

“Around 6 am, the doctors at the hospital said our father’s condition was serious and he needed to be taken to a better hospital. He was referred to a hospital in Mohan Nagar. We reached there by 7 am in our car. However, doctors at the hospital referred him to the ESI Hospital,” Pradeep said.

According to him, they reached the ESI Hospital around 7.30 am, but the doctors did not admit Premchand saying there was no doctor there to attend him.

“The doctors asked us to wait saying there is a shortage of doctors. We kept begging them to admit our father but they did not budge. Around 12 noon, our father’s condition worsened and he died at 1.15 pm in the car itself,” Pradeep said.

After his death, the family created a ruckus at the hospital. The police were called in to calm the situation.

“There is a shortage of doctors at the hospital due to which we could not attend the patient. However, it is negligence on our part that the patient was not provided emergency treatment. We will inquire into this,” said SP Singh, medical superintendent, ESI Hospital.

“We have not received any official complaint regarding the incident yet,” said Surender Yadav, station house officer, Sahibabad police station.
