The police have absolved Shivani, who was in a relationship with murdered Muslim youth Asif, of any involvement in the crime. She worked for a private developer, who resented his relationship with the youth and allegedly shot him dead with his accomplices.
Asif was allegedly gunned down by Dinesh Sharma, Shivani’s employer, and two of his accomplices, Lucky and Rajiv, as she stepped out after shopping with Asif at the Gaur Mall in Raj Nagar District Centre on August 4. Asif’s family later named Shivani as a prime accused in the case.
“We have given a clean chit to Shivani as she has not been found to have had any role in the murder or conspiracy behind it. She and the victim had gone shopping and both had no clue that Sharma and his accomplices were following her. We also scanned the electronic surveillance records and found no connection between Shivani and Sharma or his accomplices,” Neeraj Kumar Singh, station house officer, Kavi Nagar police station, said.
Shivani, 30 , had told police that she had been in a relationship for more than 14 years with Asif and was not ready to break it off at the behest of her employer.
“When her father died in December 2015, I went to her house and saw Asif taking the responsibility of her father’s cremation and making other arrangements. I did not approve of this relationship, as he was from a different community. I told Shivani that she is Brahmin should stay away from him,” Dinesh Sharma, the accused builder, said.
A fortnight back, Dinesh procured two mobile phones in the name of two persons. The phones were used by his associates Dinesh and Lucky to plan the murder and also evade police surveillance.
“When Dinesh and his accomplices arrived at the mall to kill Asif, Shivani spotted him along with Lucky. Lucky offen visited Dinesh’s officer to meet him. Although she was named as an accused by Asif’s family, they later gave statements to the police that they don’t suspect her of having a role in the crime. She often visited his family and was in good terms with them,” Singh added.
After the arrest of Dinesh and Lucky, Shivani is now a prime witness in the case and will record her statement against her employer.
“We will get her statement recorded before a magistrate, as she is the only prime witness in the case and saw the entire incident first hand. Asif sustained three gunshots and lay bleeding next to his car. Though Shivani took him to the nearest hospital, he succumbed to his injuries,” Singh added.
On the day of the arrest, the police brought Shivani to identify Dinesh and his accomplice. However, the woman lost her cool and attacked Dinesh. He was rescued by the police.
To ascertain the entire sequence of events, the police also undertook a scene of crime reconstruction where Dinesh told them about the exact happenings and the route they took to arrive at the mall. After shooting Asif, Dinesh said he fled to Jaipur. He was arrested on his return to Ghaziabad.
