The program was conducted through a unique idea, wherein a phone number was circulated and residents were asked to click pictures of garbage and send it to that number through WhatsApp, along with the location. Over 500 people shared images of unclean locations through WhatsApp from various locations across Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Kaushambhi and Vaishali, officials said.

“The response from residents, that too within two days, was overwhelming. Whenever residents shared pictures of spots which needed to be cleaned, workers were sent there for the purpose,” YN Choudhary, GDA’s enforcement in-charge, said.

The drive was conducted under the Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘Green UP, Clean UP’ initiative.

“On both the days of this drive, cleanliness activities were conducted across Indirapuram from 8 am to 5 pm, wherein garbage was collected and locations across 16 pre-identified areas cleaned. Close to 700 people from GDA participated in the event alongside the employees of Saya Group,” Choudhary said.

Also present were participants from the Safai Muhim NGO, who helped cover the entire area.

Senior GDA officials, including vice-chairman Vijay Yadav, were also present to inspect the drive.

“We aim to reshape the entire landscape of Indirapuram with this drive. We have ordered the workers to prune all bushes and trees on dividers across the roads here. The authority has always been very supportive towards such initiatives and would like to encourage others to take steps in this direction,” Yadav said.

Authority officials said that a similar drive will be carried out next week as well.

“The cleanliness drive does not end here and will we conduct another drive on August 16,17 and 19. This time, we will also conduct an anti-encroachment drive in Ahinsa Khand-2, besides the cleanliness drive,” Choudhary said.
