For trial, bus drivers were also asked to use the U-turn at the spot to check that the barricades allow smooth negotiation of the U-turn and uninterrupted movement of vehicles coming from Delhi.

The traffic police erected barricades for the convenience of commuters travelling towards Chilla in Delhi on the Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway, to ensure that they can take a U-turn without hassle before crossing the defunct toll booth on the flyway.

Superintendent of police (traffic) Anil Kumar Jha, said, “This has been done to avoid jams on the road. Many commuters travelling from Rajnigandha Chowk would stop at this U-turn to travel towards Chilla Road. But, as vehicles move at a high speed from Delhi, it was not easy for them to take a U-turn.”

Now, the barricades erected for the purpose stretches up to 50 metres near the U-turn. Two lanes have been allocated for commuters to take a U-turn without fear and four lanes have been allocated for those moving from Delhi, Jha added.

Earlier people would stop and take the U-turn cautiously, keeping an eye on vehicles coming from Delhi, which obstructed the flow of vehicles on the flyway towards Delhi.

“Vehicles halting for taking U-turn would cause jams. With the installation of barricades, commuters can take U-turn and smooth flow of traffic will also be maintained,” Jha said.

The barricades were put in place on Monday afternoon after traffic police conducted the survey along with the officials of DND.

For trial, bus drivers were also asked to use the U-turn at the spot to check that the barricades allow smooth negotiation of the U-turn and uninterrupted movement of vehicles coming from Delhi.

In a similar move, the Noida traffic police had previously installed barricades on the cloverleaf turn that goes towards Film City and Greater Noida.

Jha said that the barricades will remain permanently at the spot and they will ensure that no one damages them.
