The Noida police have started coordinating with their counterparts in Gurgaon after four men in their custody allegedly confessed and admitted to their role in the Jewar murder and gang-rape incident.
The development assumes significance as the Noida police had already claimed to have arrested all the accused in the case.
On May 25, eight people in a car were robbed, held hostage and four women, aged 28 to 52 years, were allegedly gang-raped by six robbers on Jewar-Bulandshahr Road.
The victims were waylaid in the fields adjacent to the road after they had stopped the car due to punctured tyres. A male relative of the women was also shot dead.
A team of four officers from Noida led by deputy superintendent of police, Raj Kumar Mishra, met senior officials of the Gurgaon police on the issue on Friday.
Gurgaon police on Thursday had claimed to have busted the notorious ‘axle gang’ which was allegedly involved in rapes and murders in Bulandshahr, Jewar, both in western Uttar Pradesh, and Dingerheri village in Haryana’s Nuh district.
Senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar, Love Kumar, said, “The men that the Gurgaon police have arrested are in judicial custody. Our team was there yesterday (Friday) and will continue to be in touch with the police in Gurgaon.”
On the Noida police‘s earlier claim of having arrested the four accused, the SSP said, “ We stand by our findings. We had completed all the procedures involved in it.”
He said the men held by Gurgaon police may be associated with the men the Noida police had arrested on July 23, after a brief encounter near Sabota village underpass in Jewar.
“The men we arrested and those held by Gurgaon police have similar addresses, in Najafgarh and other areas of Haryana. We are coordinating with Gurgaon police to look at it from all angles. The confession statement has been taken from Gurgaon police and it is being reviewed. It will take some time to establish the sequence of events,” Love Kumar said.
