The Noida campus of Dr Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) closed its registration for the two-day ‘Mega Job Fair’ on Wednesday afternoon after 16,400 students registered for the event.

The university administration will organise the job fair on June 9 and 10 in its Noida campus in C-22 at Sector 62 where a total of 73 companies will be offering jobs to students. It has been estimated by university officials that a total of 500-600 jobs will be on offer for two days.

“We stopped the registration of applicants on Wednesday afternoon by which time 16,400 students had registered for the event. We have received an overwhelming response in the past few days as both companies and applicants have increased. All the applicants are from AKTU-affiliated colleges who graduated in 2016 or have appeared for their final exams in 2017,” said Dr Sanjeev Sharma, advisor, Noida centre, AKTU.

Titled Mega Job Fair, the two-day event is an initiative of AKTU vice chancellor Dr Vinay Pathak. There are more than 900 colleges associated with AKTU across the state of which 168 are located in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.

According to university officials, out of the 16,400 applicants, 8,700 are from colleges based in Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut and Bulandshahr. Students of BTech branches, MCA and MBA have registered for the event.

“The fair will begin from 8am on June 9. The first batch consists of 7,000 applicants. Students must bring their curriculum vitae. The dress code is formals,” said Sharma.

To discuss the management of the event, a meeting was held in the Noida campus on Wednesday, which was attended by more than 60 training placement officers of AKTU-affiliated colleges.

“The officers have been designated the task of management of the fair and to ensure that visiting companies’ dignitaries do not face any difficulty. However, under no circumstance are they supposed to talk to or assist any of the applicants. They will not favour their or any other college’s applicants,” said Sharma.

The 73 companies that will visit the fair include names such as HCL, NIIT, India Mart, Just Dial, Tech Mahindra, Bhilwara industries, UFlex and Anix Systems.

“Registrations for HCL have gone above 9,000 and it is arguably the most sought-after company in the fair. However, other companies such as GSS are also offering decent package of Rs5 lakh per annum,” said Sharma.

Companies’ representatives said they have vacancies for trainee/fresher positions for BTech, MBA and MCA students.

“We are looking for vacancies in our IT infrastructure division and will interview applicants from BTech background,” said Kuldeep Singh Rawat, human resources, HCL.

“We are looking for management trainees for our back-end operations in the Noida office. MBA candidates will be preferred and we have 18-20 vacancies,” said Amit Mishra, head of business management, Anix Systems Private Limited.
