The Gautam Budh Nagar police on Thursday foiled a robbery attempt and arrested three persons from Bisrakh in Noida after a brief gunbattle.
Rajesh Kumar Sharma, the station house officer of Bisrakh police station, said, “We received a tip-off about their robbery plans. The criminals were planning a heist in Gaur City area.”
“We stationed police teams near Gaur City and carried out vehicle checks. The three were travelling in a stolen Ola cab. When we stopped their car, they opened fire on the police party, and after a brief crossfire, we managed to nab the criminals,” Sharma said.
The accused — Vikrant Singh, Abhishek Singh and Sumit Singh — were arrested. The police recovered a stolen Ola cab, countrymade gun, live ammunition and mobile phones from them.
Sharma said, “The criminals have several cases against them and had committed crimes in Noida and Greater Noida. They mainly robbed people of their vehicles on highways and were planning a similar robbery on Thursday. They would stop vehicles in the night, overpower the driver and rob them of their vehicle.”
Vikrant and Sumit are from Mainpuri district while Abhishek is from Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.
Sharma said, “We are investigating the incident in which they had robbed a cab driver of his vehicle and also trying to trace if the accused had any other accomplices. Police teams will be roped in for a search.”
Two others arrested
In another incident, Bisrakh police nabbed two persons who were trying to rob an auto driver late Thursday night. Sharma said that a police patrol team rescued an auto driver and nabbed two persons – Pankaj Singh and Vishesh Singh — who were threatening the auto driver with knives in an isolated area.
