A woman’s semi-naked body was found from a green belt at Sector 122 in Noida on Friday morning. Police suspect that the woman was raped before being murdered.

The woman’s head was smashed against a lamp post due to which she bled profusely and died on the spot, the police said.

The police are yet to identify the victim, but said she could be a married woman as she was wearing a mangalsutra.

On Friday morning, some locals spotted the body and informed us about the crime, said Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer of Phase 3 police station.

Yashpal Kashyap, one of the witnesses, told Hindustan Times that the woman’s body was soaked in blood and was lying in a semi-naked state. Some locals had covered her body with clothes.

Kashyap said, “I was passing through Sector 122 on Friday morning when I saw a huge crowd in the park. I went to the spot to check if anything was wrong and came to know that a woman’s body had been found lying in the park. I quickly informed the police about the incident.”

“As soon as we were informed about the matter, a police team along with a dog squad and forensic team was sent to the spot. The police cordoned off the area and her body was sent for postmortem examination after collecting samples from the crime scene,” Arun Kumar Singh, superintendent of police, Noida City, said.

Singh said, “The woman’s age could be between 22 and 25. Her head was forcefully smashed against an electric pole in the green belt area along the service road in Sector 122. The injury was deep and blood stains were found on the electric pole, which is 7 feet tall.”

“We are not sure if the victim was raped before being killed. However, medical examinations will be conducted on her body to shed more light on the same,” Singh said.

The police said that they are unable to identify the victim, though she had a tattoo on her right hand which reads ‘Rekha’.

A case has been registered at Phase 3 police station and further investigation is on in the matter.
