Woman shot dead by brother-in-law in Ghaziabad for missing phone call

A 29-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother-in-law at her home in Ghaziabad in front of her husband.

The woman, Manju Goswami, was shot inside her Rahul Vihar residence in Vijay Nagar, in the presence of her husband.

Police said a complaint was lodged by the woman’s husband Rajesh Goswami.

Police said the victim went with her neighbour to deposit her children’s school fee and later went to a beauty parlour.

“There, the accused Mukesh called her up several times but she did not respond to his calls. When she returned home, her brother-in-law got infuriated and shot her in the chest with a country made weapon in the presence of her husband. However, the husband could not dare to resist the attack by his brother on his wife. The woman bled profusely as the bullet hit near the heart area and she fell unconscious. She was rushed to MMG Hospital where she succumbed during treatment,” said IP Singh, circle officer.

He added that Mukesh had spent around seven years in jail on charges of rape attempt on his elder sister-in-law.

“The case was lodged against him at Meerut and he had come out of jail nearly a year back. He is of a criminal mentality and we are searching for him. He fled the house soon after the incident. Several teams are formed to nab him,” Singh added.

The woman’s husband said it was a family altercation which led to the incident.

“There had been frequent altercations within the family over some domestic disputes. I came to know that my sister had instigated Mukesh against my wife and later that gave way to the incident,” he said.
