Dry fruits for judokas

From now on, top judokas will get dry fruits instead of food supplements at SAI’s regional training centre in Sonepat. Due to a “doping scare”, 56 probables, including 26 women, will get dry fruits as extra diet in the camp, said SAI regional head Radhika Sriman. HT reports.

According to her, the centre doesn’t have the knowhow to test whether supplements contain banned substances, if any, as per WADA rules. “Dry fruits are a better option,” she said. Even coaches associated with the camp have agreed to the changeover.

Judo Federation of India president Mukesh Kumar said they can’t procure supplements as there are chances of being adulteration: “We can’t recommend a product as we don’t have medical experts on our panel. There’s a lot of risk these days, we need to be extra vigilant.
