The 15-meter state-of-the-art wall has two climbing surfaces - difficulty wall and speed wall. Three persons can climb on the difficulty wall, while two can compete on the speed wall simultaneously.

"This is the first sport climbing wall of its kind and the features will attract not only the Indian climbers but also internationally acclaimed climbers to take part in future competitions in India," a Ministry release said.

"This will enable IMF (Indian Mountaineering Foundation) to organise the World Cups or World Championships in India in future which will add another field of adventure competitions in the country," it added.

Sport climbing is a style of rock climbing and the walls used for the discipline has permanent anchors fixed to the surface which is used by the climbers.
