“The federation had decided to consider the Nationals as the eligibility criteria for selecting the Commonwealth and Asian Games squads, and if anyone skips the championships, he will not be allowed to participate in the selection trials for the two games,” said IBF secretary-general, PK Muralidharan Raja.
“We are not going to pick the final team on the basis of performance in the Nationals, but we will select a new core group. And, only those names will be considered for final selection trials, who will participate in the domestic event,” he added.
Some of the country’s top names like Olympic-medallist Vijender have either missed departmental or state-level tournaments and will most likely not be included in their respective state teams. However, Raja said that, “All international medallists, who did not get the opportunity to represent their state or institutions will be permitted to participate in the meet as a part of the IBF team.”
